Annual Physicals

Annual Physicals Q & A

Why do I need an annual physical?

An annual physical is part of preventive health care. You should schedule a routine physical at We Care Clinic at least once a year, even when you’re healthy and not experiencing any symptoms.

The purpose of an annual physical is to ensure your body is functioning optimally and that you have no early warning signs of a chronic disease.

In addition to the peace of mind you get knowing you’re healthy, you may also need annual physicals for employment or organized sports participation. These physicals ensure you’re healthy enough to perform the duties required of your job or chosen sport.

What can I expect during my annual physical?

During your initial visit, the We Care Clinic team spends time reviewing your personal and family medical history to determine if you have risk factors for certain diseases. As part of your physical exam, your provider evaluates details about your health, including:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Heart rate
  • Blood pressure
  • Body temperature
  • Joint flexibility
  • Muscle strength

In addition to evaluating your overall physical health, the We Care Clinic staff discusses your lifestyle, diet, and exercise routine and makes suggestions for improving your quality of life. They can also address any questions or concerns you have about your physical or mental health.

Your provider may also request additional screenings if you have existing health issues or are receiving treatment for an underlying condition.

Will I need blood work during my annual physical?

If you have a family history or risk factors for certain diseases, like heart disease or diabetes, your We Care Clinic physician may request blood work or other diagnostic testing.

Blood tests may also be necessary if you’re currently taking medications to treat an existing health issue. These tests help your physician monitor the effectiveness of your treatment and ensure medications aren’t causing complications.

In the event your physician discovers an underlying health issue, they work with you on a plan to treat it.

If it’s been longer than a year since your last annual physical, schedule an appointment online or by calling the We Care Clinic office today.
